Noise & Vibration Monitoring System 

There are two common types of monitoring systems often used in construction projects as required by local authorities. They are the Noise and Vibration Monitoring System. The requirement of the Noise Monitoring System is regulated by The National Environment Agency, NEA. Meanwhile, Vibration Monitoring System is regulated by Building Construction Authorities, BCA.

Construction contractors and renovation contractors are usually the ones required to rent Noise and Vibration Monitoring systems to fulfill the requirement. Below is the basic introduction of the Noise & Vibration Monitoring System.

Noise Monitoring System

Construction activities generate a high level of noise and may cause noise pollution to the neighborhood. Especially in such a dense population in Singapore, noise management becomes an important agenda.

To better monitor and manage the noise level around the construction site, Noise Monitoring System is required to install at the job site under Singapore’s NEA Environmental Protection and Management (Control of Noise at Construction Sites) Regulations Clause 4. 

Many construction projects are taking place over more lengthy time periods and operations often continue 24 hours a day to optimize efficiency and minimize the impact on workday traffic. By implementing a 24-hour noise monitoring system, with real-time communication and alert notification, contractor and local authorities can know the noise level and correct any problems that may arise. 

The Noise Monitoring System is comprised of a few components such as Sound Level Meter, Wireless Data Logger, Solar Panel, and positioning Bracket or Pole.

Vibration Monitoring System 

Construction works not only generate noise but vibration as well to the surrounding ground. For construction works such as pilling, demolition, and heavy vehicle movement, the vibration generated may cause a big impact on the nearby building structure and underground structure. 

Under BCA regulation, the contractor is required to install a construction vibration monitoring system at locations designated by authorities such as nearby buildings and structures. The primary purpose of this monitoring is to address structural damage to nearby buildings, and it is usually accompanied by pre-and post-construction crack inspections. The result will be required time by time by the authorities to monitor and check the vibration caused by the construction work.
