What is Demolition Equipment?

Cutting tools or equipment refers to a handheld or drivable tool/machine used to cut, shape, or remove the material or a portion from a structure. Of course, cutting tool materials must be harder than the material which will be cut, and also able to withstand heat and force generated in the metal-cutting process. 

In construction, it is very common to rent cutting tools or equipment for demolition work or alteration work. For typical site projects, the majority of these tools/equipment are designed for metals (especially rebars), asphalt, and concrete. 

There are 3 common types of cutting equipment rented in construction projects.

1. Angle Grinder

An angle grinder (side or disc grinder) is a light power tool that can be used to cut, grind and polish. An abrasive disc or a thin cut-off disc is mounted on its head which can be replaced when worn. Powered by either an electric motor or compressed air, it is extremely versatile and is widely used in metalworking and construction.

2. Power Cutter

As heavy as it looks, a power cutter is actually quite lightweight and can be handheld. Designed for heavy cutting duties, it is a must-have in construction sites as it can cut most materials such as wood, plastic, metals, concrete, and other materials like tiles bricks. 

3. Floor Saw

A floor saw, sometimes known as a concrete saw, is a heavy power tool for cutting concrete, masonry, brick, asphalt, tile, and other solid materials. The saw blades used are often diamond saw blades. Powered by gasoline, hydraulic pressure, or electric motor, the saw blades have to be cooled after cutting hard substances to increase the life cycle.
