What is Lorry Truck?

A lorry truck is a motor vehicle specifically designed to transport heavy and large cargo such as construction equipment and machinery or specialized payloads. Generally, lorry trucks are categorized by their carriage deck length: 10ft, 14ft, 20ft, and 24ft. Lorry trucks with a carriage deck length above 24ft do exist but are less common. Some lorry trucks even have a carriage deck as large as 40ft.

A 10ft carriage deck lorry truck usually offers a load capacity of around 1.5 tons; a 14ft lorry truck offers around 2.5 tons; a 20ft offers around 3 tons, and a 24ft offers 4 tons and above.

Besides the carriage deck length, another distinctive feature amongst lorry trucks is the availability and type of carriage deck cover provided. There are 3 main types of carriage deck:

1. Open Carriage Deck

3. Box/Container Carriage Deck

Lastly, a lorry truck can have a box or container carriage deck. A box/container lorry truck ensures that the entire carriage deck is safely enclosed within a metal container. 

This type of carriage deck offers the best protection and insulation from the weather for the cargo. Some container lorry trucks even come with an air-conditioning system to keep sensitive payloads chilled.

Besides the type of carriage deck and its length, another factor to consider when renting a lorry truck is the availability of a hydraulic-powered tailgate.
