On 57th Singapore Birthday, Singapore Prime Minister Lee mentioned about 3 National Key infrastructure projects that would send a clear signal to the world that Singapore is charging toward another milestone achievement.

Singapore Changi Terminal 5 is expected to open in the mid-2030s and will be a new mega-terminal at the airport. Changi Airport is now re-mobilizing the design and engineering consultants to refine the T-5 design. When completed, Terminal 5 will have the capacity to serve 50 million passengers per year, more than the capacity of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 combined.
The Terminal 5 project was first announced back in 2013, but project was halted in 2020 following a two-year hiatus due to a pandemic. The terminal will be designed with the flexibility to be built in two phases, in line with traffic growth.

The new terminal will be located within the 1080-hectare (~2,670 acres) Changi East development, which is almost as big as the land area of the current Changi Airport, T1, T2, T3 & T4 combined.
Beyond building design, T5 will incorporate the latest features to reduce the transmission of diseases, such as contactless systems at passenger touchpoints and enhanced ventilation systems. As the concept rendering shows, T5's roof will be covered in a mass of solar panels. Inside it will incorporate the latest in intelligent building management systems, including district cooling combined with thermal energy storage.
Singapore aims to enhance and strengthen Tuas Port capabilities with an ongoing plan, which once fully completed around 20 years from now, the port is expected to handle 65 million TEUs annually, almost double current volumes. The existing Singaporean container terminals at Tanjong Pagar, Pasir Panjang, Keppel, and Brani will be relocated and merged with the Tuas terminal upon its completion.

According to a recent announcement by Singapore's Ministry of Transport (MOT), the first two berths in Tuas Port Phase 1 started operations in December 2021 on schedule, and three more berths will start operations by December 2022.
"The first two berths started operations last December, vessels are calling there from all over the world," as confirmed Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, during his speech at National Day Rally 2022.
According to the plan, operations at Tuas Port Phase 1 will have 21 deep-water berths that can handle 20 million TEUs annually when fully operationalized in 2027. "Operations at Pasir Panjang Terminal will be consolidated at Tuas Port by 2040s," noted Singapore's MOT (Ministry of Transport).

Paya Lebar Air Base relocation from 2030 onwards would free up 800ha of land – equivalent to the number of homes in Punggol and Sengkang combined. Height limits now in place in the eastern portion of Singapore to guarantee aircraft navigational safety would be eased, allowing for the redevelopment of existing low-rise structures. This means, that neighboring towns such as Hougang, Marine Parade, or Punggol can be redeveloped, with more amenities included and better use of space.

Just next to the Tampines North-Pasir Ris area (bordering where the TPE connects to the KPE), the old Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB) is about five times the size of Toa Payoh town (about 800 hectares of land). When the current airbase relocates to Changi Air Base East and Tengah Air Base by the 2030s, the Paya Lebar site will be redeveloped for housing, recreation, and businesses. This includes retaining its heritage significance, such as the 3.8km-long runway.
Public and private housing can sit on both sides of the spine, with amenities and recreational areas close by. Commercial and industrial developments can also be located nearby, to bring jobs closer to homes. Hence, redefine and transform into a truly Smart Living City.
